Toss in the Dragon Quest flavor, complete with the franchise’s trademark charming monster designs, and I’m interested. Maybe it’s the Final Fantasy Tactics and Tactics Ogre diehard in me, but I confess to a giddy little adrenaline rush whenever I discover a grid-based strategy JRPG of any sort. New and more experienced players can enjoy this new form of combat in this simple-yet-deep tactical RPG game that features a large roster of beloved monsters.

The game was released on July 16th, 2020 in Japan and January 28th, 2021 globally. I’ll let Square Enix’s Dragon Quest Tac t page do the talking here: Square Enix just announced that Dragon Quest Tact will be released internationally on iOS and Android for free on January 27th. I used to feel similarly! That said, there’s enough depth involved here to color me curious nonetheless. If that’s an inherent turnoff for you, I totally understand. Square Enix considered the game’s launch a huge success, which inspired its global launch. Directed by Yuji Horii, featuring the inspirational music composed by Koichi Sugiyama, and monster design by the visionary creator of the DRAGON BALL series, Akira Toriyama, DRAGON QUEST.
